In the Old Testament, God demonstrated that he was holy and set apart from the people of Israel. They could only approach him when the ritually and symbolically clean. This was intended to reinforce their position before God and their need to be spiritually cleansed. This chart details all the different ways they could be ritually unclean and how long they would remain in this state before worshiping again.
